Is this a woodpecker? I spotted it in a neighbours tree which overhangs into our garden. Sorry not brilliant images but I couldn't get it to pose properly! Can you even spot it in the bottom image?
Yes, definetely a woodpecker. You'll be publishing a book next, called "Where's Woody?" Why not, they made a fortune with "Where's Wally" and even more with "Where's the Stig"!
I think it's a lesser spotted woodpecker, but I have only ever seen one in Scotland. I think a Linnet came to my birdtable today. It was too fast for a photo though.
If its got a red top to its head its a lesser spotted woodpecker or a juvenile greater spotted (adults have black caps). Martin often sees them over Celey woods which is not far from you. last week Goldfinches, this week woodpeckers, next week Golden Eagles?
how lucky to see one! I always think of the native american saying that they represent the drum, or the heartbeat of the earth with their pecking - its a really nice thought. Caireen x
Looks like a woodpecker to me. Possibly a Great Spotted one but I'm no expert.
